Did you know that more than half of Americans either work or own a small business? Or that small businesses employ two out of three net new jobs? Small businesses are vital to the economy and their local communities. This week is National Small Business Week and we are proud to show our support by spotlighting a few of the many small businesses and VGM members who are doing BIG things!
VGM small business snapshot No. 1: MRS Homecare
Employs: 110 full-time employees
Community involvement: MRS is active in the community of every branch location. Last year, MRS provided $25,000 in sponsorships to community organizations and charity events such as the Relay for Life, Alzheimer’s Association, The ALS Association of Georgia and local student groups. In addition to monetary donations, MRS coordinates a large Toys for Tots drive each year at their company Christmas party. In 2014, MRS employees donated 400 items to the local Toys for Tots program.
What’s the best part about being a small business owner? “The best part of being a small business owner is the interaction with our staff, which we consider to be our family. Another perk is seeing how much of an impact each of our branches has on their respective local communities and getting personal thank-you notes from our customers,” comments Tyler Riddle, vice president of MRS Homecare.
Why should people support small businesses?
“People should support small businesses because they are the backbone of their local communities. Whether you live in Fitzgerald, Ga., or Metro Atlanta, small businesses contribute so much to the local economy through jobs, goods, taxes and community involvement. Supporting a local business keeps your money local and improves the quality of life for everyone,” concludes Tyler Riddle.
