Another successful VGM Heartland Conference has come to a close as nearly 600 attendees traveled to Waterloo, Iowa, for a fun and educational week. The strength of the DME community always shines through as providers from across the country share the common bond of working to serve their patients. We were very fortunate to have the wide range of speakers and courses this week, including the Small Business Administration, which advocates on behalf of small businesses at all levels of government. Deputy Ombudsman Yolanda Swift, Becky Greenwald and Jayne Armstrong of the Iowa and district office were able to attend. Cindy Ciardo of Knueppels Home Medical and Regina Gillespie of Best Home Medical shared their experiences on becoming involved in the grassroots efforts from hitting Captiol Hill to testifying in front of the SBA!
|We also had local congressional representatives in attendance at multiple events, including the legislative update presented by VGM’s John Gallagher, Jay Witter of AAHomecare and Cara Bachenheimer of Invacare.
Although we greatly missed Van Miller at this year’s Heartland Conference, he made sure to let us know he was watching over us at the hog roast on Monday as severe weather and rain clouds split up just before Waterloo. This year’s conference brought together many old friendships and formed many new ones along with plenty of laughs and great food. From the many great speakers that offered great educational opportunities in the class room, the many vendors showcasing their products in the exhibit hall, to the fun-filled hog roast and gala, we are reminded of why the world of DME is such a special industry: the people. We would like to thank all of those who were able to attend this year’s Heartland Conference and making it such a great success. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s conference. We wish everyone safe travels back home!
