The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be hosting a phone call for suppliers to provide input for implementation of the Cures Act passed at the end of last year. The call is scheduled for Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM EST.
Suppliers will have the opportunity to learn more about the implementation of the bill and provide feedback to CMS.
From the announcement:
CMS is mandated to solicit and take into account stakeholder input related to adjustments of fees paid in non-competitive bidding areas beginning in 2019. CMS is also mandated to take into account the highest amount bid by a winning supplier in a competitive bidding area and a comparison of the following with respect to non-competitive bidding areas and competitive bidding areas:
- Average travel distance and costs associated with furnishing items and services in an area
- Average volume of items and services furnished by suppliers in the area
- The number of suppliers in the area
In previous years, there has been little communication about the topic of rural DMEPOS health care. While the agency would host phone call about competitive bidding to educate new providers on the process, there would be very few avenues for providers to have a direct dialogue about how the program was affecting their business and patients.
This is one the best opportunities for suppliers to voice their opinion by giving real world effects of competitive bidding to non-CBA and rural areas of the country. We strongly encourage VGM’s membership to attend this extremely important call by signing up through the MLN Connects website here: https://blh.ier.intercall.com/
