After several amendments to the SGR bill failed last night, the Senate overwhelmingly approved the SGR repeal-and-replacement legislation. The final vote was 92-8. Sustainable Growth Rate bill also known as the SGR/Doc fix is used to determine Medicare payment rates for physicians and provide for a transition to a new dual system intended to reward quality care that would begin by 2019. H.R. 284- the binding bids language, was included on this bill. This came a couple hours short of the deadline that would cut physician reimbursement by 21 percent.
The bill is now going to the White House, where President Barack Obama is expected to sign.
The passing of the bill is a victory for the DME community! Although there are some corrections that we hope can be made during reconciliation.
Thank you to all of you who took the time to speak with your House and Senate congressional leaders about the importance of binding bids bill.
